When it comes to music, there are some people who say only the original versions of songs are the best.  As in, if it's a cover version, it will never be as good at the original.

Along those lines, I know people who won't go and see bands with a different than the original lead singer.  For example, someone I know whose favorite band is Alice In Chains fan, won't go and see them with William Duvall on lead vocals because it's not Layne Staley.  Even though it's impossible to see Layne with them again, and William absolutely rocks it, he claims it's not the same.  While I agree it isn't, it's what we have and to me it's so worth it.

For me, some songs get boring.  Yes, even classic songs, like for example, Aerosmith's 'Sweet Emotion'.  I'm not saying I don't like the song anymore, or that it's bad, I'm saying after hearing it thousands of times, it gets old.  Like, I'm good if I don't hear it for a long while.  A newer cover version though, hell yeah, let's hear it.

As far as covers go, I equally appreciate when an artist mirrors the original and also when it's their own spin.  One group who does this close to the Twin Ports is the Blue Canvas Orchestra.

Blue Canvas Orchestra is the house band of the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua, in Bayfield, WI.  Their 'Pickin' on Rock' events are bluegrass and alternative string interpretations of classic rock songs.

You might hear them performing songs from Led Zeppelin, Heart, Guns N' Roses, or the Beatles.  Their next 'Pickin' on Rock' event is on Thursday, June 29th and you can snag some pretty inexpensive tickets for the show here.
