The City of Duluth has sent out letters to over 55,000 residents warning them to monitor their credit reports after a phishing email scam.

According to the letter sent out by David Montgomery, the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Duluth, a City Clerk email address was compromised on August 14th of this year. A third party account possibly gained access to files that contained voter registration information that included people's names, addresses, and dates of birth. All of which is considered public information with the exception of dates of birth.

Once the City learned about the incident, the email account was shut down and law enforcement was notified. The City is encouraging people to keep a close eye on your credit reports as a precautionary measure. You can receive a free copy of your credit report one a year from each of the three credit report companies.
