Lucasfilm has a pretty full slate between now and 2020, with one new Star Wars movie hitting theaters each year — and yes, that includes the mysterious third anthology film which once had Josh Trank attached to direct. We have plenty of Star Wars to keep us busy for the next few years, and according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Lucasfilm hasn’t forgotten about that third spinoff project, which is still in the works along with tentative plans for more franchise installments beyond 2020.

During his appearance at today’s Goldman Sachs conference (via The Wrap), Iger spoke a bit about Disney’s plans for their Lucasfilm and Marvel franchises. Iger joked that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy isn’t “just making a Star Wars movie, she’s making a Star Wars universe, of sorts.” He also revealed that they had a meeting to discuss upcoming films, which included talks of what to do with the franchise after Episode IX:

I had a meeting yesterday with Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out — well, we reviewed — the ‘Star Wars’ plans that we have ’til 2020. We have movies in development for ‘Star Wars’ ’til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond.

The CEO went on to confirm that the third Star Wars Story anthology film is still in the works for a 2020 release, and that Lucasfilm has already hired a writer for the project, which was previously rumored as a Boba Fett prequel story. As for who is writing the spinoff and what it might be about, Iger didn’t say.

Variety also reports that Iger briefly touched on the subject of Rogue One, the first installment in the Star Wars Story anthology series, which he described as “an experiment of sorts.” Iger says that although “The level of interest [in Rogue One] is as high as it was for Force Awakens,” Disney isn’t expecting Gareth Edwards’ spinoff to perform as well as its predecessor at the box office.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16, followed by Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII in 2017, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo spinoff in 2018, Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX in 2019, and the mysterious third anthology film in 2020.
