Duluth Awarded Grant From EPA For Restoration Initiative

Duluth is one of thirteen recipient cities that were rewarded with grants that will go towards funding projects that are going to improve the water quality around swimming beaches.

The grant falls under the 'Great Lakes Restoration Initiative'. The initiative was launched in 2010 and the purpose is to "accelerate efforts to protect and restore the largest system of fresh surface water in the world. It is the largest investment in the Great Lakes in more than two decades." according to the press release.

Duluth will receive $58,000 that will go towards building rain gardens, restoring shoreline buffers at Park Point, and planting trees.

Ashland, Wisconsin was also granted money from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. They will receive $175,000 that will go towards constructing infiltration swales, plant native vegetation and replenish beaches that stretch across 2.9 acres.
