The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks had a special hockey season this year, hosting Hockey Day in Minnesota and reaching the 7AA title game. Tuesday another honor came their way.

Senior defenseman, Jake Bischoff has been named the best of the best defenseman in the state....he was honored as inaugural Reed Larson Award winner, that goes to the top defensive player in the state.

He had 25 points on the year in just 19 games, due to an injury shortened season. For his career, the Gopher recruit has 94 points in 71 career games with Grand Rapids. Other Northland finalists for the award were Miers Moore of Duluth East and Jake Zeleznikar from Hermantown.

Head Coach Bruce LaRoque had high praise for Bischoff, “Jake Bischoff brings some entangles, sure we see his skill and great ability on the ice there is not many kids like him.  Again you talk about his leadership on the bench and on the ice and he becomes a very important component.”
