It was a bittersweet end to to the high school hockey career of Hermantown Hawks forward Chris Benson on Championship Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Benson was named the 2013 Class A Boys recipient of the Herb Brooks Award and he, along with three of his teammates were named to the 2013 All-Tournament Team.

Named after legendary coach Herb Brooks, the award is given to the Minnesota state hockey tournament player who most strongly represents the values, characteristics, and traits that defined Herb Brooks. Upon receiving the award, Benson emotionally thanked his teammates and the fans watching from the stands at the Xcel Energy Center and at home on television. Benson joins fellow Hawks winner Chad Huttel who earned the award in 2007.

Benson joined Neal Pionk, Travis Koepke and Adam Smith in being named to the 2013 All-Tournament Team. All-Tournament Team members are selected based on exemplary performance through the MSHSL State Hockey Tournament.
