Christian Ponder did not practice again today in London for the Minnesota Vikings as they prepare for their home away from home game in London against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. His rib injury was worse than initially thought, giving Matt Cassel the green light to start on Sunday.

While Cassel will have his first opportunity to run the first-team Vikings offense this weekend, whispers of a trade for Josh Freeman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been getting louder. Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports is reporting that the Vikings are potentially interested in making a deal to bring Freeman in from Tampa Bay following the Buccaneers benching him in favor of rookie Mike Glennon. Following being benched, reports are surfacing that Freeman is seeking a trade before this season's deadline.

LaCanfora reports that Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman was a big Freeman fan coming out of college; and says that being things aren't working out with Ponder, the change of scenery for Freeman may be good for both the 25 year old quarterback and the Vikings. According to LaCanfora's story, Tampa Bay would likely accept a late round pick for Freeman.

Beside a rocky start to this season, Freeman has been an above-average quarterback for the Buccaneers since being drafted at number 17 overall in 2009 by Tampa Bay. Through his time in the NFL, Freeman has thrown for 13,534 yards and 80 touchdowns while picking up 922 yards rushing with 4 touchdowns on the ground.
