The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced temporary closures of Duluth roads related to the Mesaba Avenue project.

According to MnDOT, motorists can expect the following closures to take place beginning August 16:

  • The ramp from southbound I-35 to eastbound Highway 2 will close Thursday, August 16 through Thursday, August 30. This closure will allow crews to paint the portion of the ramp that is over water. To expedite progress, the contractor will work seven days per week during this closure.  The signed detour will be south on I-35 to Central Avenue, back north on I-35 and right on the ramp to eastbound Highway 2.
  • The majority of Central Entrance/Mesaba Avenue/6th Avenue East and Rice Lake Road will close from 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 17 through 5:00 a.m., Monday, August 20. Limited movements will be allowed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes or use the posted detour route.
