Minnesota Twins Announce Target Field Batter’s Eye Enhancements For 2019

The Minnesota Twins recently announced enhancements to Gate 34 at Target Field and now they've announced another enhancement that will involve the batter's eye in center field.

Gone will be the plain black wall out in center field as the Twins will replace that with a new "living wall" system that will be the first o fits kind in Major League baseball.

According to TwinsBaseball.com:

The Target Field living wall system, which at 2,280 square feet will be among the largest in the continental United States, will incorporate approximately 5,700 sea green juniper plants, individually installed and secured in a tiered, multiple-tray system attached to the existing batter’s eye wall structure. Together, the junipers will create a consistent, stationary background of lush greenery, without variations in color or texture, to provide both beauty and a world-class hitter’s backdrop.

This unique living wall will be self irrigated with Pentair's rainwater recycle system.  The junipers will be installed in March and then removed at the end of the season so they can be stored locally during the winter.

Installation of this new addition will begin the week of January 21, 2019, and it will be in place prior to March 28 when the Twins open their season against the Cleveland Indians.
