The Minnesota Twins will have their home opener on Monday, April 11 against the Chicago White Sox.  They have a lot of great things planned at Target Field including a flyover by the Duluth-based 148th Fighter Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard.  If you plan on going, plan on getting there early to enjoy it all.

According to the Twins, Hall of Famer Rod Carew will be throwing out the first pitch and the first 30,000 fans in attendance will receive a red Twins hoodie (size M or XL).

If you want a sweatshirt, I'd recommend you get there well before the first pitch as gates open 2 hours earlier at 1 p.m.  There will be entertainment inside Target Field prior to the first pitch, so you won't be bored.

Here is a full list of the fun happening in Minneapolis for the Twins first home game:

  • 6 to 9 am – Breakfast on the Plaza – Fans are invited to drive down 7th Street (adjacent to the Majestic Twins Clubhouse Store) and grab a free ballpark breakfast. Free food and beverages will also be available to bikers and pedestrians on the 7th Street side of Target Plaza.
  • Noon to 2:15 pm – DJ Mad Mardigan will perform on the balcony overlooking Target Plaza.
  • 1:00 pm – Gates open – Certain Twins retired number members and alumni from the 1991 World Championship team – celebrating the 25th anniversary of the club’s second World Series victory – will assist in officially opening the gates.
  • 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm – Live music from Bones and Beeker at Target Field Station.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
  • The National Anthem will be performed by singer Caroline Smith. Smith returns home to tour her native Midwest to promote her new record and the release of her new single, “Giving Myself Away.”  Following her anthem performance, fans can meet Caroline Smith in the Twins Digital Clubhouse in the U.S. Bank Home Run Porch.
  • Ceremonial first pitch thrown by Twins legend Rod Carew.
  • Flyover featuring a pair of F-16s from the Duluth-based 148th Fighter Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Enjoy the festivities and the game, and make sure to send me your pictures.
