It has been a week that has shaken us to our core as the remains of Jacob Wetterling were found and then details of the horrific events the lead to his tragic death were made public.  I personally have been overcome with emotion several times this week.

The Minnesota Twins are using their game Friday night to remember Jacob, and to honor the Wetterling family.

The Twins will be wearing red jerseys with a number 11 patch Friday night when they host the Cleveland Indians. Additionally, the visiting Cleveland Indians will also wear the number 11 patch in honor of Jacob.

The Twins will have a moment of remembrance pre-game Friday against the Indians to accept the family’s wishes of honoring Jacob with the number 11, as well as a tribute to Jacob’s life in the form of an outfield wall graphic at Target Field for the remainder of the 2016 season.

According to the Twins press release,  Jacob wore a red number 11 jersey in sports as a child and the Wetterling family asked people to use the number 11 as a symbol of hope to honor their son and show a commitment to making the world a better place for kids.

The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center and the Wetterling family asked to put on the number 11 and live by these 11 traits:

  1. Be fair
  2. Be kind
  3. Be understanding
  4. Be honest
  5. Be thankful
  6. Be a good sport
  7. Be a good friend
  8. Be joyful
  9. Be generous
  10. Be gentle with others
  11. Be positive

Fans are also encouraged to share how they are living by these 11 traits by using the hashtags #JacobsHopeLives and #11forJacob on social media.

Beginning Friday, the Twins will also auction off 11 game-worn jerseys with the number 11 patch from Friday with all proceeds to benefit the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center.
