NFL Suspends Four Players for Involvement in ‘Bountygate’ Bounty Program

In another move to penalize those involved with the 'Bountygate' program run by members of the New Orleans Saints Organization, the NFL has suspended four players. Each of these players is receiving a different suspension term, based on their involvement.

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is receiving the longest of the suspensions, being kept off the field through the entire 2012  season - which will include any postseason play the Saints might find themselves a part of.

Other suspensions include Saints defensive end Will Smith for four games, along with two players that are now with other teams. Current Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove will be held off the field for the first eight games of the 2012 season. Scott Fujita, who is now with the Cleveland Browns, will be suspended for the first three games of the 2012 season.

The NFL has already handed out suspensions for Head Coach Sean Payton and Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams, who is now with the St. Louis Rams.
