The Minneapolis city council now has a majority support for a new Vikings stadium, that's according to Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak.  This clears another hurdle for the long awaited stadium, although far from completed, it may provide a much needed jump start for the slow moving stadium project.

The Minnesota Vikings have reached a deal with the City of Minneapolis and key figures in the State Legislature on building a new $975 million stadium just east of the Metrodome. The final steps are getting the deal approved by the Minnesota Legislature and Minneapolis City Council...

With the forward momentum on the Los Angeles NFL stadium, talk about who will reside in the new complex is hotter than ever. Teams mentioned as possible tenants include the Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers, and Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings' lease at the Metrodome is near its end and the nearly 30 year-old facility doesn't seem to be a viable option for the team.

The Metrodome in Minneapolis will start to get it's new roof installed next week.  One big hurdle was cleared today when the first insurance check was delivered to the Metropolitan Sports Commission, who claims the roof will be done in time for the first Vikings pre-season game in August.

It looks like progress is being made on a new stadium where the Vikings and hundreds of other local events will call home . I love the idea of moving the stadium out of downtown into a spacious space in the suburbs. I'm very familiar with this area, and I couldn't think of a better place, that peice of land has been an empty eye sore for my entire life, do something with it already...

Let the negotiations begin.  With the lease of the Metrodome expiring after the end of next season and the roof still collapsed, the Vikings are looking for a new home.
