Yeah I know it is only the first game, and we have 15 more games to go; but yesterday we saw a quarterback in Christian Ponder who is to scared to throw down field, a quarterback who likes to make what would be an easy catch for his receivers into a life or death situation.

It is time for to Ponder to either sink or swim; this team is to talented to be led by a quarterback who has no backbone. The fictional "leash" needs to be tightened up so much that Ponder should barley breath.

The Vikings have a future Hall of Fame running back that is in his prime of his career, and decent offensive line, and a receiving core that would make even Tom Brady happy. This team is poised to be a playoff contender, but with a inadequate quarterback this team is more likely to be a 7-9 team and drafting their future quarterback next April.

I like Ponder, he is professional, looks like a great quarterback, but when he steps back and throws (Ponder) looks like a division three quarterback; not a guy drafted in the first round. I want a quarterback that has arrogance, a guy who can talk the talk, and walk the walk (couch, couch Johnny Maziel).

If Ponder was not looking over his shoulder before yesterdays game, he should be now; because no longer does he not have a decent backup behind him, but with Matt Cassel backing him up he has a great chance to be holding the clipboard when the Vikings head to London in two weeks. Cassel knows how to lead a team to the playoffs, and is way too experienced to be a backup, let alone backing up Ponder.

I have been in Ponders corner ever since we drafted him two-and-half years ago, yet yesterday made me jump ship; and unless Ponder shows a night and day turnaround next Sunday, I will be leading the riot calling for Cassel to be promoted to starter.

Ponder has had every chance to succeed, but if he can't this year in the most critical year of his career, then the Vikings need to change course. It is not good for PR to bench your "franchise" quarterback, but if Ponder can not learn to throw the football, then he is no longer the Vikings franchise quarterback, but more like the Vikings backup quarterback.
