For years, Minnesota Twins fans have heard of how Byron Buxton was going take his minor league prowess and become a franchise player in the big leagues.  While there have been glimpses of his amazing abilities, especially defensively, he has yet to show that potential over the long haul.  Just in time for a playoff race, that could be changing.

TwinsBaseball.com is reporting that Buxton has been named American League Player Of The Week.  Buxton hit three homers and drove in a career-high five runs in Sunday's 7-2 win in Toronto.  That capped off a week where he posted a .333/.343/.818 slash line with 11 RBIs and an AL-high five homers.

The surprising Twins currently hold the second Wild Card playoff spot as they open a home series against the Chicago White Sox.
