Speculation that former Twins player and coach Paul Molitor would be named as the new team manager was confirmed today as the team announced a press event for Tuesday to officially name Molitor as Ron Gardenhire's successor as manager.

Molitor will become the thirteenth manager in Twins history, following the announcement at the end of the season that the team would part ways with Ron Gardenhire after 13 years as the manager. The other primary name that came up up in consideration was former Twins first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Allegedly the team contacted Joe Maddon as well, following his departure from Tampa Bay.

Molitor's deal with his hometown team is reportedly a three-year term, giving the first-time manager the opportunity to manage the Twins through 2017.
