GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The state high school girls basketball and volleyball tournaments will stay in the Green Bay area.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and PMI Entertainment Group have reached a long-term deal to keep the tournaments at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon until 2020.

Nearly 40,000 tickets were sold for the girls basketball tournament last March. That compares with about 30,000 tickets sold in 2012 at the Kohl Center in Madison. Attendance in northeastern Wisconsin was likely boosted by the four area teams that were in the tournament.

WLUK-TV says the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau estimated the basketball tournament had a local economic impact of about $3 million. The volleyball tournament, held at the Resch Center since the arena opened in 2002, brings in around $1 million.
