Until today it had been a couple of years since I attended the Duluth Airshow.  I opted in to work in exchange for some tickets, invited my folks to join me, and Saturday was my assigned day.

The gates opened a smidgen before the 9AM time as there were already people lined up since probably 8AM, anxious to get a good frontline seat.  I worked until 11 when the show started, met up with my folks, and found a place to chill and watch it.

As awesome as the planes and jets were, including the Navy Blue Angels who I have never seen put on a bad show, the Shockwave Jet Truck was probably my favorite.  I think it's a crowd favorite too as they ran it twice during the 11-4:30 Airshow performance time.  This thing is crazy fast, crazy loud, and the smoke show is incredible.  They even have it race a plane to show you how fast it is, and it holds the world record for jet-powered full-sized trucks at 376 miles per hour.

The other thing I really enjoyed was the static plane displays.  Some you could even go into, like the B-17 Yankee Lady.  If you see it, ask the gentlemen hanging around it's full story, they had a hand in it's journey back to it's glory.

If you go tomorrow, Sunday the 21st, here are a few things to remember.  Sunscreen, I didn't bring it and of course the clouds opened up and I scorched my bald dome.  Comfy shoes, these are a must as the grounds of the show are huge, yes you can stay planted in a small area but you won't want to when you see all that they have.  Check DuluthAirshow, com for information on parking since there are several color coded lots, shuttle options, and also the schedule of events.  They have incredibly detailed maps to make sure you know how to get to where you need to be.  Extra hearing protection too for the kids is also a good idea.  It wasn't overly loud but for a little kid it might be too much.

Otherwise plan on staying for most of the day, yes there is that much to do.  Gates will be at 9AM and the show will start at 11AM on Sunday, July 21st.  I definitely had a good time all around and my parents who have never been, loved it!
