In a press release issued on Tuesday afternoon, organizers of the NorthShore Inline Marathon and Skate Fest announced that this year's events have been cancelled, being moved to a virtual format for 2020.

After deliberation, the NSIM Board of Directors and event staff made the determination that it was not possible to hold an in-person event this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The decision to cancel this year's live event and shift to a virtual format came after discussions with the event's strategic partners in the City of Duluth, City of Two Harbors, St. Louis and Lake Counties, the DECC, their medical partners at St. Luke's, and others.

The event, scheduled for September 18-20, will continue in a virtual format. While registration is closed for the now-cancelled in-person event, registration to participate in the virtual event remains open. Pre-registered athletes will have the following options for their 2020 registration:

  • Enter into the 2020 Virtual NorthShore event
  • Receive a coupon toward any 2021 NorthShore race event
  • Race insurance package purchase will be honored

The virtual race will give participants the chance to participate in the various events (the inline marathon, rollerski event, and running event) without physically being in Duluth on race day. Participants will be asked to complete their desired race and submit results between September 11 and September 20, 2020. After completing registration and submitting your results, you will be mailed your finisher items.
