Adrian Peterson returned to Minneapolis as a member of the Washington Redskins on Thursday to face the Minnesota Vikings and it turned out to be an emotional night for AP.

During the game, where he had 14 carries for 76 yards, Peterson moved up to sixth on the NFL all-time rushing list.  When the milestone occurred, it was acknowledged by showing him on both scoreboards at U.S. Bank Stadium.

As Vikings fans applauded and showed their appreciation for AP, he a saluted them right back in an emotional moment for the future hall of fame running back.

That moment must've really stuck with him as early Sunday morning he sent out the tweet below to formally thank Minnesota fans.

Adrian Peterson spent his first 10 years with the Vikings, rushing for 11,747 yards, 97 touchdowns.  He was also named to seven Pro Bowls, and earned a league MVP honor during his tenure with the team.
