Benny and the Vikes: Sapp Hoping to Add to Defense

The Vikings currently have one of the five worst pass defenses in the league, fueled in part by injuries to Antoine Winfield and the arrest of Chris Cook, among other things. To stop the bleeding, the Vikings have reached out to former Viking Benny Sapp to join the depleted Vikings secondary.

After two seasons with the Vikings, Sapp was traded to the Dolphins in 2010.  Sapp played the 2010 season and the first game in the 2011 season, at which point the Dolphins cut him. The cut came after being torched by Tom Brady and Wes Welker on Monday Night Football in week 1. Sapp did offer an explanation for the perfomance, saying:

[In] My personal opinion, I just tried to get a little too cute. Probably one of my baddest games I’ve had in my career. I don’t know. Just tried to get a little too cute.

The announcement has been received well by members of the Vikings defense, with players like Jamarca Sanford calling Sapp a good friend and exciting player.

Sapp's performance with the Vikings in his first stint with the team produced 59 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles.
