On Friday a new DC Universe type movie was released as a spin-off and a follow-up to the movie Suicide Squad which came out in 2016.  It's titled "Birds of Prey(and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)".  We had a few hours to kill this weekend and opted to catch it in the theater.

For those not in the know, Harley Quinn is The Joker's main squeeze, or was until the start of this movie where Joker breaks up with her.  Now, without the protection of Joker, just about everyone in Gotham is out to get her.  It's fast paced, and the story is told by Harley, which is a different approach for a DC film, and I think it served it well.  If you like action, you'll dig this film, the gritty language is in it too and it definitely earned it's "R" rating with that and the violence.

I enjoyed it as what I call a "Popcorn Movie", it keeps you decently focused on the screen while mindlessly eating your popcorn, but doesn't offer much more substance than that.  It's a setup film and did a good job of preparing us for a sequel.  Should you see it in theaters?  Maybe for a matinee ticket price, I mean, it did hold my attention better than Aquaman, and not just because of the mostly female cast.  I'm going to guess it will be available on your streaming services or in Redbox sooner than later though.  Did you see it?  What did you think?
