After a couple of years with Southern Illinois University, former UMD Football Defensive Coordinator John Steger is making a return to the Bulldog football program.

Steger served served as defensive coordinator for 11 seasons at UMD before leaving for Southern Illinois University two seasons ago. With his return, he will resume defensive coordinator duties for the 2012 season. He will be replacing Todd Strop, who retired this offseason from his position.

Along with the addition of Steger back to the coaching staff, Tyler Yelk is being promoted to the special teams coordinator spot on the staff. Yelk was a All-American free safety with the Bulldogs as a senior in 2008. Prior to this promotion, he supervised the defensive secondary and worked with recruiting for the Bulldogs. He will continue these duties along with his new job.
