NASCAR announced a major policy change Wednesday involving the presence of Confederate flags at any of their races and events.

They made the following announcement on their Twitter account:

"The presence of the confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry," a league statement read. "Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties."

After making the announcement, the reaction has ranged from full support to people promoting a full NASCAR ban.  Tweets like the ones below display a sample of the range of emotions from the decision.

This decision leads everyone to wonder if now is the time that controversial nicknames, such as the Washington Redskins and the Atlanta Braves, will be fully confronted and changed.  Perhaps now is also the time fans will be prohibited from doing things like the "Tomahawk Chop" during games.
