Coyote On CBS All Access Initial Review
Coyote is a new television show on CBS All Access, and it caught my attention because it stars Michael Chiklis. Chiklis starred in a a show called The Shield on FX between 2002 and 2008, it still is one of my favorite action/drama series.
I subscribe to CBS All Access because of Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and hopefully soon another Star Trek series. Coyote debuted 6 episodes at once on January 7th, 2021. I jumped into it about a week after it came out and as of now just finished episode 4.
Coyote tells the story of just retired border patrol agent, Ben Clemens(Chiklis). It's a bit gritty in parts, but more drama than action thus far. It has that sort of slow burn feel that Breaking Bad had, however it's not quite as easy to get pulled into the story. It's also moderately predictable. Based on the previews, I assumed that the show would be a little bit faster paced and intense. I'm hoping the slower start is part of a massive build up in the plot and further character development. I'm probably a bit let down as I thought it would have more of the grit and intense feel that The Shield provided. That's on me though for hoping for a similar series with Chiklis. As of now, I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
I'll for sure finish all 6 episodes and probably watch more if they are released, or maybe that will be the whole first season. It's not worth the CBS All Access price per month on it's own, but if you're fan of other CBS shows including new Star Trek, it's worth having another monthly streaming fee.
