A brand of pre-made flatbread pizza products is being recalled due to inspection issues.  According to the United States Department of Agriculture, multiple varieties of Culinevo flatbread pizzas are involved in the voluntary recall.  The food products are made by California-based Ideal Foods.  At issue is the fact that they were produced, packed, and distributed without the benefit of federal inspection.

The Culinevo flatbreads included as part of the recall were produced between October 2019 and April 2020.  Here are the specifics:

  • 3.5-oz. plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “Culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza Carne Asada”.
  • 13-oz. plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “Culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza Chicken Spinach Artichoke”.
  • 16.5-oz. plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “Culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza Sizzlin Jalapeno”.
  • 14.5-oz. plastic-wrapped cardboard trays containing “Culinevo Artisan Style Flatbread Pizza Meat Lovers”.

All of the products in question bear the marks “EST. 45351A” or “P-45351A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.  Click here to see a representative sample of the packaging labels.

It should be noted that there have been no cases of illness associated with the flatbreads.  Again, the issue is the fact that they weren't presented for federal inspection.  The problem was discovered during a routine review of inspection procedures.

People who believe that they may have the Culinevo flatbread pizzas in their freezer should reach out to Ideal Foods for further action.  Consumers with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854).
