We are finally feeling summer like conditions and while it's awesome, there are some concerns that go with it.

Ahead of a warm weekend, the Duluth Police Department has issued a warning to residents: do not leave a child in a vehicle unattended. This may seem like common sense but sadly it still happens.

In an effort to bring awareness to the issue, they posted the following message on their Facebook page this week:

It’s important to understand that children are more vulnerable to heatstroke than adults whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or bystander. A child's body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult's. When a child is left in a hot vehicle that child's temperature can rise in a quick and deadly manner. Heatstroke begins when the core body temperature reaches about 104 degrees. A core body temperature of about 107 degrees is lethal. In 2018, 51 children died of vehicular heatstroke.

WDIO Meteorologist Taylor Dayton shared a forecast for the weekend and it is going to be very warm with highs in the 80s.

Let's all be safe as we head into the warm weekend and take as many precautions as possible.
