The Green Bay Packers announced and showed their uniforms to be featured on Week 7 as a throwback jersey/uniform as they face Washington.

The uniforms are inspired by the 1950-53 Green Bay Packers uniforms, which according to the Green Bay Packers website was the second time the team wore green and gold. They also wore the colors in the 1930s.

As you can see they have the same team colors that are worn now, and instead of the traditional gold pants that are worn now, on October 24th, they will be worn with matching green pants with gold stripes, and green socks.

Packers President /CEO Mark Murphy says on the Green Bay website that these jerseys were what was worn just before the field was built and just before the teams' success in the 1960s. The team will make these the third uniform for the 2021-22 season.

According to the website, The Packers said these jerseys sort of marked the time that team founder Curly Lambeau had departed and ended his career with Green Bay, and the arrival of coach Vince Lombardi. The NFL was becoming something else. It was also a turning point for the success and rise to fame of the team and Lombardi himself.

The NFL permits teams to have a third jersey during the season, and according to the Packers website, can be worn 3 times a year over a 5 year period. I don't understand why the rules are so tight, the extra jerseys make it more fun to watch. As you know the Packers have featured the 1929 jerseys, which marked the first world championship for the team. The more recent third jersey, worn from 2015-19, was a re-creation of the team's uniform in the 1940s.

Of course, you can buy these throwback jerseys and other things like t-shirts, jackets, hats, and other assorted pieces of collector's items.
