When the ping pong balls were sorted out on Tuesday night the Minnesota Timberwolves finally got what they deserved. After a 16 win season, the Wolves were rewarded with the first pick in the 2015 NBA draft. In the history of the team they had never moved up in the lottery, luckily for them they didn’t need to this year. The Wolves just had to not slip and lady luck finally went their way.

If you have followed the team for any length of time you know the history; bad luck, terrible luck, and worse luck. They are perhaps the worst organization in sports. Terrible draft picks, terrible executives, and terrible coaches have contributed to this mess of a team. A team that reached a new level of futility last season with only 16 wins. Maybe, just maybe, there was something special in this lost season.

The fact that Flip Saunders was able to turn disgruntled forward Kevin Love into Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins was the first thing that has gone right for this franchise in years. He is the one piece to build everything else around for years to come. Now, with the 1st overall pick and Wiggins, this team may actually be reversing the curse that they have had for so many years. Although they may seem like baby steps, for this organization the steps couldn’t be bigger. Not since the drafting of Kevin Garnett has there been any reason for optimism.
Now that luck has finally reversed course for them, let’s hope that the actual drafting improves as well!
