Help Out During The SS Meteor Volunteer Work Weekend
The Great lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society, Superior Public Museums, Lake Superior Marine Museum Association and Wisconsin Underwater Archeology Association are all behind The S.S. Meteor Preservation and Stabilization Project. It's right around the corner too, happening April 27 & 28, 2019.
If you are interested in volunteering to help preserve this Maritime History Museum you can do that but they do want you to pre-register so they can get a head count for food and have some idea of the total there to help. If you are going to be volunteering your lunch is provided both days and you are reminded to bring painting clothes and also clothing to account for changing weather. Some tools will be provided for the cleanup but if you have specific items you like to work with, you are encouraged to bring them. You must be 16 years of age or older.
People traveling from out of town can get a special rate at Barker's Island Inn at just $60 per night, you need to call 715-392-7152 to book it and mention the Whale-back Cleanup. More information about registering and clothing you should have with can be found here.
