The amount of tourists coming into the Twin Ports this summer is expected to be at normal levels or possibly higher due to people being vaccinated and restrictions being lifted. On one hand this is great news for the economy, but for businesses in the area it puts on an extra strain due to lack of employees.

The hotel industry is really feeling the pressure since they have to accommodate all the visitors from out of town and some of them are also struggling to hire more employees. Even though during COVID some of the hotels were still a little busy, things are picking up very quickly and with major events happening again this summer it is crucial that they be fully staffed.

Barkers Island Resort in Superior is one of the hotels in the area that is need of employees and as of right now some of the staff have been working multiple positions to try and cover for the openings that they have. Shannon Olson, the General Manager, said to FOX21:

Yes this summer is expected to be a ground breaking summer and we’re just expecting to be really busy and like I said we are going to work our hardest to keep up with the demand.

Barkers Island Inn Resort and Conference Center is offering incentives like bonuses and raises to those who want to apply. For anyone with hotel experience this is a great opportunity to secure a new job. Meanwhile hotels around the area are bracing for a very busy season and hoping that their guests will remain patient through the transition.

I for one have major wander lust and am looking forward to doing some traveling this summer and I absolutely realize that many businesses are doing the best they can to provide the best service possible. So I will be cool and just be grateful for the chance to be able to have  some sense of normalcy unlike last summer when I was stuck in my house.
