Drivers who navigate through the Thomson Hill area of I-35 will encounter some road construction work over the next few weeks.  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting drivers of a short-term bituminous overlay over concrete project that will happen during the off-peak hours.

According to details released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the work zone will be located between a half-mile south of Boundary Avenue to 63rd Avenue West.  Due to the nature of this project, the work zone and the road construction will occur in both sides of the freeway - with both north bound and south bound I-35 being affected.

To accommodate the heavy volume of traffic that travels through that area, the work crew will be on-site at night, between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.  Motorists should fully expect lane closures and delays.

Along with the north bound and south bound lanes, some additional closures will be necessary as the work progresses.  MNDOT suggests that some temporary ramp closures will occur and detours will be required as the work progresses.

The initial timeline for the project released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation has the work being wrapped up and completed by September 17. However, road construction projects are subject to extenuating situations and the weather which could delay the completion date.
