It’s Confirmed: Ashley Furniture Going Into Old Shopko Building In Duluth
It seems hard to believe that Shopko in Duluth has been closed since June of 2019. I for one was really bummed because I really liked going to that store, but apparently, I was alone since they ended up closing. In the meantime, a pop-up Halloween shop temporarily used the space, but now we know exactly what is coming.
Furniture Mart USA purchased the 6.7-acre lot in the Stoneridge Shopping Center in Duluth in April of 2021 for $3 million cash. According to the Duluth News Tribune {Paywall} "the company owns and operates the brands Furniture Mart, Ashley Homestore, Unclaimed Freight Furniture and Carpet One."
WDIO reports that the outside of the building is getting a few finishing touches being painted a lighter shade of yellow and a temporary sign over the Shopko sign says Ashley Furniture is opening soon and they are now hiring. The website to apply is furnituremartusa.com/careers.
Ashley Furniture has over 1,000 stores in the United States and celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2020. I for one am happy that we have another furniture store in the area. Competition is always good and raises the bar for everyone. I have nothing against the major furniture stores in Duluth not at all, I actually just bought a bunch of furniture from them, but again always nice to have options.
