The Duluth area is a great place to live if you love to run, walk or take part in any outdoor activity! Given the beauty of Minnesota and all the events there are year round in the Northland, you will never be bored. That's for sure.

There is a 5K run and walk that takes you along some of the most beautiful terrain in Duluth and it's coming up in May. The race raises awareness for food allergies and takes runners along the Lakewalk.

I learned about the race while picking up my packet for the St. Fennessy 4K and am excited to try out a new race! It is chip timed, so you can race it competitively. There is also a walking option as well.

The race takes place on Saturday, May 25th. There is also an option for kids, with a 'fun run' available for the younger crowd. There will also be prizes and giveaways, so the fun doesn't stop when you cross the finish line.

You can register online now. The Northland 5K for Food Allergy race kicks off at Leif Erickson Park. It follows the Lakewalk towards Canal Park. Runners will turn around just before the light house.

If you want a shirt and want to take part, make sure you register by May 1st to secure your swag. The shirts are one of the best parts of taking part in a race! You can never have too many shirts.

Aside from the race itself, there will also be other fun for you and your family to take part in:

  • Allergy-conscious food and beverages
  • Lawn games
  • Kids activites
  • Allergy-aware business and product information
  • Samples to take home
  • Duluth firefighters on site to talk to and learn about fire safety
  • A raffle

This also gives runners a fun way to practice for Grandma's Marathon or the William A. Irvin 5K with a little less pressure. The best part? You help out a great cause!
