WisDOT Suggests Taking Detour To Bayfield Apple Fest To Avoid Huge Delays
The Wisconsin Department Of Transportation has several projects underway that could cause some major delays for drivers. The warning comes before the popular Bayfield Apple Fest.
One of the routes to Bayfield from Duluth, Superior, and surrounding areas would be to take Highway 2 through Iron River, Ino, and then connect to Highway 13 just before Ashland. Typically a short drive up the peninusala through Washburn would get you there.
However, road construction in Washburn is expected to cause delays. The project according to WisDOT includes a mainline full closure from Thompson Road to 2nd Ave West. The project is expected to be completed by November 15, 2024.
Bayfield Apple Festival takes place October 4-6, 2024. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation suggests a detour for drivers coming from the west.
Instead of taking Highway 2, drivers should instead take Highway 13 through Port Wing, Cornhcopia, and then to Bayfield.
The drive is roughly the same distance and more scenic, with views along the south shore of Lake Superior. Plan some extra time for heavier traffic.
