Did You Know There Are 6 Fire Towers You Can Climb In Minnesota?
I remember as a kid seeing fire towers in the Superior National Forest and wishing I could go to the top of one of them. Now, many years later, I could actually get the chance. I had no idea that the Minnesota DNR actually has some fire towers open to the public.
I saw it recently it a post about Smokey The Bear's 80th birthday celebration. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has a 2024 Summer Fire Tower Club to honor Smokey. They have provided 6 locations of fire towers where you can get unique Smokey Bear 80th birthday items at each.

You can climb the towers, but you don't have to in order to participate. There's a code word at the tower's base. Get the code word and then head into the park's visitor center during office hours to collect a special Smokey Bear item.
The fire towers are at the Big Bog State Recreation Area, Itasca State Park, St. Croix State Park, Whitewater State Park, and also at the Minnesota State Fair from Aug 22- Sept 2.)
The collectible items are only available while supplies last. The Fire Tower Club continues until September 2, 2024.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds you to check the visitor alerts for each park before you head out. They post updates about temporary closures and other important visitor information.
