Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon Sells Out Again For 2023
It took about a month for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon to sell out. The race takes place in conjunction with Grandma's Marathon. The half marathon is a very popular race for runners who like to go long distances, but don't necessarily want to go the whole 26.2 miles.
The capacity of the half marathon is capped at 8,000 runners. It's sold out each and every year since its inception back in 1991. Grandma's Marathon's Marketing & Public Relations Director Zach Schneider says it's incredible to see the enthusiasm runners have for this race.
“This is a bucket list race for a lot of people, but once they’re here and they experience the crowds and the community support, it seems they want to keep coming back year after year.”
The race is named after Twig, Minnesota Native Garry Bjorklund. He was a US Olympian who won Grandma's Marathon in 1977 and in 1980.
Over 13,500 runners are now officially registered for the 2023 Grandma's Marathon weekend. Last year was a record year for the largest-ever Grandma's Marathon weekend in history after being able to return after the pandemic. They are currently on pace to once again have as big or bigger attendance for the race on June 17, 2023.
The full marathon welcomes more than 20,000 participants each year. Grandma's Marathon estimates that the race brings in 21 million dollars to the region each year.
You can still register for the full Grandma's Marathon or William A. Irvin 5k by going to Grandma's website.
If you missed out on getting registered for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, there are still chances to participate through Grandma's Charity Partners.
