Organizers have announced there is a last-minute change to this year's John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. This comes after the annual event was postponed already from an original January date.

Starting Location Moved

The race starting location has been moved from Billy's Bar in Duluth to Two Harbors because of rapidly deteriorating snow conditions in the Duluth Area. Temperatures reached near 50 degrees on Monday, February 24th causing melting conditions across the Northland.

President of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon elaborates on the change:

"Weather always plays a role in sled dog racing, and unfortunately, the recent warm temperatures have made conditions at our original start line unsuitable for the race, there is virtually no snow as of right now" said Mike Keyport, President of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. "While we’re disappointed to move from our traditional start, we’re grateful for the support of Two Harbors and our dedicated volunteers who make this race possible. Our team has worked hard to ensure the course remains safe and competitive, and we’re looking forward to an exciting race."

More Volunteers Needed

Because of the new starting location, more volunteers are needed to help with tasks, like helping out at the starting line and working checkpoints. Monetary donations also help with grooming fees and other race expenses.
