Justin Jefferson Just Did Something No Other Vikings Player Has Ever Done

If you follow the Minnesota Vikings or the NFL in general, you know Justin Jefferson is a force to be reckoned with.

The original "J.J." (you know, not J.J. McCarthy) and Randy Moss stand out as two of the greatest players to have ever worn Vikings purple, but Jefferson's most recent feat puts him above the legend of #84 during his years in Minnesota.

Before the start of the new NFL season, the EA Sports Madden NFL game comes out. With its release every year, there's an eye on who makes the exclusive "Madden 99 Club".

An overall rating of 99 is the highest player rating anyone can achieve in the game, basically signalling they are at a legendary level of skill in the league as the game's makers see it.

Back in 2023, Justin Jefferson became just the fourth Minnesota Vikings player to ever be named to the 99 Club in the history of the game. He was once again in that elite list last year. For the third straight year, #18 is in the rare territory of being in the 99 club, which places him in very rare territory both among Vikings players and around the NFL.

The Vikings shared today that he was surprised by Vikings legends (and Hall of Famers) Cris Carter and John Randle presented Jefferson with a "99" chain to mark the occasion.

How do Jefferson's 3 '99 Club' appearances compare to the rest of the Vikings greats?

If you had asked me how many times Randy Moss earned a 99 Club appearance, I would have guessed 3 or 4 times, with at least one of them being with the Vikings.

I would have been wrong on both accounts.

Moss somehow never got to a 99 rating in Madden during his time in Minnesota, though he did make the club twice - once with the Raiders (Madden 06) and once with the Patriots (Madden 09).

Jefferson, on the other hand, has collected three 99 Club appearances in three straight years, eclipsing Randy's overall number and obviously the number with the Vikings.
