National Weather Service Of Duluth Shares Important Summer Reminder
Spring is in the air in the Northland and it appears as though winter is behind us for good - almost.
I reached out to WDIO Meteorologist Lea Zmurko last week to see if spring was on its way and winter was on its way out. She said that warmer temperatures will usher in spring this week.

Things are still on track at the time of writing, despite some light wintry mix midweek, with projected temperatures reaching the upper 50s by Friday.
Light rain and snow mix aside, it does appear spring is in the air, which means we should start brushing up on all things severe weather in spring and even summer.
It also happens to be Severe Weather Awareness Week. Spring and summer means severe thunderstorms, strong winds and the like in our neck of the woods. That's why the National Weather Service of Duluth is issuing a nice reminder.

They took to social media on Tuesday (April 8th) to talk about the damaging winds we see all too often in the Northland, especially in the summer. They are reminding locals that these strong winds do cause damage and are nothing to gloss over.
According to NWS Duluth, the winds we see in the summertime are often times even more damaging than most tornadoes, which is insane! They are reminding Northlanders to take shelter in a sturdy building if you are caught outside during a storm or strong winds.

They are also reminding locals to avoid taking shelter near trees and power lines. This is a great reminder because I didn't realize our winds could be worse than tornadoes. That proves just how important it is to be prepared!
