Good news for those foodies we have in the Northland. One of the best places to eat in the Twin Ports recently has gone under a facelift. New owners took over the business last summer and have been working hard at work. Don't worry, all the menu items that made this place a favorite are still there along with some new options.

Eddie's is located in Superior's Itasca neighborhood just off highway 53. The address is 5221 E 4th Street.

People know Eddie's for their world-famous ribs, and they are exactly as good as advertised. The ownership of the restaurant switched hands in August of 2022. Ben and Mary Anderson bought the business and got to work making some updates to the look.

Ben says the previous owner had taken care of a lot of the updates before the sale, like newer windows, utilities, and a new roof. That helped them be able to focus on re-energizing the already-established restaurant.

They started with updating the bathrooms with new toilets, vanities, lights, and new paint. They also began painting the exterior last fall and will continue once the weather warms up.

More seating and a more open feel

They've been very busy with the interior recently and completely remodeled the dining room.

They have new booths, seats, and tables. Ben says that the new layout and furniture will make it easier to accommodate bigger groups who want to eat together.

The capacity of the restaurant is between 85-100 guests, depending on the layout. It gets pretty busy, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, so they recommend that you make a reservation.

Eddie's will continue their usual Thursday and Friday fish fry. As we get closer to summer, Thursdays tend to get pretty busy as well.

Local craft brews + more

They've done some work on the bar area as well, and they are featuring as many local beers, ciders, and wines as they can. They want to emulate what Canal Park and the Lincoln Park Craft District have been able to do and support local businesses. Some of the local brews you can get at Eddie's include Ursa Minor, Castle Danger, Duluth Cider, Wild State Cider, Iron River's White Winter Winery, Dancing Dragonfly Wine from St. Croix, and other brands.

More menu items

Eddie's has also expanded their menu. They are featuring a wild rice burger, chicken wings, and more appetizers too. They've added fried mac n cheese bites, duck wontons, steak bites, and an old-fashioned shrimp cocktail. They are also offering more types of salads and sandwiches.

They're also sourcing the beef from their burgers from Superior Meats now as well. Mary's mom also is doing some baking for the restaurant and you can find some great home-made baking too! I've heard the cheesecake is delicious.

What's next for Eddie's? In part of their "year plan" Ben and Mary plan to update some bar equipment and work on the exterior. They are trying to keep as many original historic elements as they can that fit with the restaurant. After all, this place has a lot of history.

Eddie's is open Tuesday - Sunday from 4-9 pm.
