If you're reading this, you already know we have been so spoiled in the Northland this month. It has been warm and almost like a second wave of summer.

This is usually the time when the weather is fair game and anything can happen, including the onset of very fall-like temperatures but not this year.

We have consistently seen upper 70s and low 80s, even well into the middle of the month. That got me thinking - how much warmer are we than average?

For that answer, I reached out to WDIO Meteorologist Lea Zmurko to find out. Here's what she told me via email:

We had a stagnant ridge over the central portion of the United States keeping conditions dry and amplifying warm air for an extended period. This was allowing temperatures to reach as high as 80 degrees across the Northland. This is approximately 15 degrees warmer than the normal values expected at this time of year.

We are eager to drop into those seasonal mid-60s and see some more of those fall colors at this time of year, but instead we have been experiencing a dry, hot second wave of summer.

Yes, I know I am eager for more fall-like temperatures. Although, I am not exactly excited about what comes after that.

The good news is that we are expected to cool off quite a bit next week and temperatures should return to 'normal' for this time of the year. I love fall but have also been loving this extended summer since we know what comes next. Soak it in!
