Employer With 53 Locations In Wisconsin Announces New Closures, Layoffs
For many reasons, Wisconsin is a great place to visit and an even better place to call home.
The state's relatively low cost of living, focus on education and healthcare, natural beauty, and diverse recreational activities attract families and individuals seeking a comfortable quality of life.
From an economic standpoint, Wisconsin provides ample job opportunities. Recent statistics show that in March 2025, Wisconsin's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.2%, which was unchanged from the previous month.
This is 1.0 percentage points lower than the national unemployment rate of 4.2%. The state's labor force participation rate was 65.6%, which is 3.1 percentage points higher than the national rate of 62.5%.
However, a recent announcement from an important employer in Wisconsin may hurt the state's and nationwide employment numbers.

UPS To Close 73 Stores And Eliminate Over 20,000 Jobs
The United Parcel Service (UPS) is the world's largest package delivery company by revenue. Still, earlier this year, reports came out that it was expediting its plan to reduce millions of deliveries for its largest customer, Amazon.com, which accounted for 11.8% of its overall revenue in 2024.
Now, UPS has announced it is expected to reduce its workforce by roughly 20,000 during 2025 due to "new or increased tariffs" and "changes in general economic conditions in the U.S. or internationally."
The formal announcement regarding layoffs was made on April 29 in the UPS first quarter earnings report, which also stated that the parcel delivery service made consolidated revenues of $21.5 billion, compared to $21.7 billion around the same time a year ago.
Consolidation efforts for UPS reportedly come as President Donald Trump's looming tariffs continue to impact U.S. and global trade, as companies across the country are reducing costs in preparation for a possible economic fallout.
What Does This Mean For Wisconsin?
