Superior School Bus Crash Being Investigated Following One-Vehicle Incident

Law enforcement authorities are investigating the cause and situations surrounding a school bus crash in rural Superior on April 24. The one-vehicle crash involved a Superior School District bus, traveling on Douglas County Road B near the Town of Summit, to the south of town.

There were no student passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. The only person in the bus was the driver.

It's not readily apparent what caused the bus to veer off of the road. After hitting the ditch of the roadway, the bus came to a stop when it struck a tree and landed on the passenger side. The Douglas County Sheriff's Department shared details and pictures of the school bus crash on their Facebook page:

According details that were shared in an article in the Superior Telegram [paywall], the school district was working hard to share the details with parents and the general public that the crash did not involve any students. Superior School District Administrator Amy Starzecki shared her thoughts with an official statement:

"Everyone here at the District is thankful that no one was seriously injured. Although this was an accident, our transportation department is taking every precaution to ensure that something like this doesn't happen in the future."

While there were no injuries involved, the driver of the bus was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

Until the investigation is complete, there won't be an official statement from the Douglas County Sheriff's office. At this time there isn't a timeline available for when that investigation would be complete.
