On Friday afternoon, the Duluth Police Department addressed a report of an attempted abduction and assault of a child in Duluth.

Duluth Police say they received a report around 4:30 pm on Thursday, October 3 about a scary-sounding situation involving a child being the victim of an attempted abduction and assault.

A story of the incident had been shared on a popular neighborhood social media platform as a warning to parents of an attempted kidnapping. The story in the post that was being shared on the platform detailed the incident happening in the Morley Heights neighborhood of Duluth this week.

The author of the post says a young girl with no shirt on ran toward a couple walking their dogs, yelling for help. The post goes on to explain that the girl was crying and saying that a man was following her, tried grabbing her, and removed her shirt in the process.

The Duluth Police Department provided an update to the situation just after 1 pm on Friday (October 4) to share their response to the incident and findings in their investigation.

The department said in a social media post that police squads responded to the incident after getting the report, which appears to have been reported by the original author of the post shared on the local neighborhood forum.

The department reports that their investigation found that the reports of an abduction were found to be untrue, finding that the child fabricated the story she gave to the couple walking their dogs.

The department noted in their social media post about the incident that they are closing the case and that no charges will be filed.
