Minnesota Wild Star Kirill Kaprizov Nets Historic Contract – How It Compares To Others
Despite the team continuing to say "don't worry", fans were still largely feeling concerned as the Minnesota Wild and its star player Kirill Kaprizov hadn't come to a new contract agreement ahead of the final year of his current deal.
After reportedly offering a massive deal that Kaprizov turned down, fans began to wonder if he just didn't want to play in Minnesota.
Those concerns have been laid to rest as the Minnesota Wild announced Tuesday morning that Kirill and the team have agreed to terms on a massive deal that currently stands as the richest deal in NHL history.
The 28-year-old Kaprizov agreed to a massive 8-year, $136 million contract that's worth about $17 million each year. Minnesota Wild reporter for The Athletic, Michael Russo, reports it is the biggest deal in both annual value and overall dollars.
The deal he agreed to is reportedly more than $1 million per year more than the deal he recently turned down.

The team has been sharing the news on social media with a few different posts. The first post was a simple photo of a part of the contract.
From there, the team shared a photo of Minnesota's general manager, Bill Guerin, with Kirill and a caption that says "97 is HERE. TO STAY."
The contract practically confirms that, too. Michael Russo reports there is a full no-move clause in the 8-year contract that he calls "truly one of a kind" due to how it is structured. Russo does note that it hasn't been approved by the league yet. The deal, if approved, will keep Kirill in Minnesota until 2033.
With Kirill now becoming the NHL player with the richest contract in league history, how much bigger is it than other deals over the years? Who else has earned top contracts like this? A few other players who have worn Minnesota Wild sweaters also once had among the richest contracts in league history. Here's a look at some of the biggest ones in NHL history.
