One Wisconsin State Park In The Running To Be Named Best In The Country
What is the best state park in all of the United States of America? One Wisconsin park is in the running to earn a spot among the best in the nation.
The USA Today is doing its annual "10 Best" series, covering a whole bunch of different categories throughout the year. With springtime here and people's minds turning to outdoor activities, the quest to name the best state parks in the country is now underway.
In the parks nominated as part of this year's contest, one Wisconsin park is in the running to earn a spot among the best in the country.
Peninsula State Park on the shoreline of Wisconsin's Door County is one of the nominees looking for the vote of the public in this competition.

If you've never been there, the park is near Fish Creek on the western side of the Door County Peninsula.
The Wisconsin DNR calls it "Wisconsin's most complete park", with more than 460 campsites, a summer theater space, an 18-hole golf course, bike trails, a lighthouse, and a nice sand beach, all along 8 miles of Lake Michigan's Green Bay shoreline.
Peninsula State Park is Wisconsin's only representative in the competition, but there are some other regional competitors in the vote. Minnesota's Gooseberry Falls State Park and Michigan's Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the U.P. is also in the running.
Voting is going on now through Monday, May 11 at 11 am. The winning state parks will be announced Wednesday, May 20. If you want to vote, you can do so here on the USA Today 10 Best website.

As of the time I am writing this article, Peninsula State Park is 9th in the voting, with the Porcupine Mountains in 5th and Minnesota's Gooseberry Falls State Park in 1st. This is certainly bound to change as votes continue to come in, so make sure you get your vote of support in if you want Wisconsin's representative in the contest to win!
