You knew that X-Men ’97 was going to have references to the old X-Men animated series from the 1990s. After all, the new show is a sequel to the old one, and imagines what would have happened if Fox hadn’t canceled the series and it had continued on adapting classic Marvel comics to the small screen (and also looked a heck of a lot better than the old show did way back when).

But now that the first two X-Men ’97 episodes are here, you might be shocked by just how many Easter eggs, little references, and hidden callbacks to X-Men: The Animated Series (and loads of Uncanny X-Men comics) the new show contains.
