Body of Missing Minnesota Canoeist Found in Boundary Waters, Search Continues for Second Missing Man
Ely, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities have found the body of a Minnesota canoeist in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
That’s according to a news release issued Friday by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. Search and rescue teams have been looking for two men who have been missing since a water emergency on May 18.

Officials identified the body as 41-year-old Jesse Melvin Haugen. Search and rescue teams found the Cambridge man’s body Friday during ongoing search operations near Curtain Falls, which is on Iron Lake on the Minnesota-Canada border.
Haugen was one of four people in canoes who went over the falls nearly two weeks ago.
Search efforts to find the body of another missing Minnesota man, identified as 40-year-old Reis Melvin Grams of Lino Lakes, remain ongoing.
The three other canoers were found alive and flown from the wilderness. One of the men had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials plan to continue the search for Grams into next week due to flights in and out of the area being unavailable until Monday.
Crews have been battling difficult weather and water conditions and more rain is expected to fall in the area over the weekend, the news release says.
The search effort involves a crew of 8-12 people. Teams are using Zodiac boats, Canoes, ROV, Drones, and K-9’s in the search effort.
