Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A plea deal was reached today in the case of a Wisconsin man accused of attacking a woman in Rochester and attempting "to bite her eye out."

42-year-old Rory Deer admitted to a third-degree assault charge using a Norgaard plea, which is often used in cases where a person admits to a crime but does not remember their actions due to impairment caused by drugs, and/or alcohol. In exchange, Olmsted County prosecutors dropped a felony domestic assault charge and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault.

Court documents indicate the attack occurred in April 2020 near the Zumbro Valley Health Center in southeast Rochester. Rochester police reported that Deer assaulted a 41-year-old woman inside her car by allegedly wrapping nunchucks around her neck and choking her. He was also accused of biting her face near one of her eyes.

The police report says she began screaming and Deer fled on foot. The responding officers found him nearby and took him into custody.

The woman told investigators that she lived in La Crescent and Deer had called her from La Crosse to request a ride to Rochester so he could "detoxify." The police report stated that he apparently had taken some meth before meeting with the woman and drank a bottle of gin while riding in her car to Rochester.

The woman told police she had initially taken Deer to St. Mary's Hospital, but he refused to get out of the vehicle, and they were instructed to go to the crisis receiving center at Zumbro Valley Health Center.

Deer is scheduled to be sentenced on November 1.
